Finalists for 2022 Singapore Sports Awards shortlisted
Singapore, 11 October 2022 – The Singapore Sports Awards (SSA) selection committees revealed the finalists of the 2022 Singapore Sports Awards today.
Organised by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and Sport Singapore (SportSG), and supported by the Tote Board, the 2022 SSA honour the most deserving individuals and teams in sports for the year 2021. The winners will be announced at the SSA presentation ceremony on the evening of Thursday, 10 November 2022.
The awards are returning after a year of hiatus when sports competitions and events were stalled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The last SSA was held in 2020 to recognise the achievements in 2019.
The main awards selection committee was chaired by Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Speaker of Parliament and President of the SNOC while Mrs Jessie Phua, Vice-President of the SNOC, chaired the selection committee for the Sportsboy/Sportsgirl awards.
Selection Criteria
National Sports Associations were invited to nominate candidates for the main award categories following a set of eligibility criteria which consider factors such as the achievements of the nominees. The selection committees then decided on the finalists and cast their votes via a secret ballot to determine the winners. Independent auditing firm KPMG will then tabulate the results for announcement on 10 November 2022.
Award categories
Of the eight awards, seven were finalised by the SNOC. The finalists for the Most Inspiring Sports Story award were judged and managed by guidelines and criteria set by SportSG.
In view of the impact of Covid-19 on the sport event industry, two categories – Best Sports Event of the Year (Local) and Best Sports Event of the Year (International) – which are judged by SportSG, will be reinstated in the SSA next year. Events that had been organised since 1 January 2020 will be considered for the awards in 2023.
There were no finalists for the categories – Team of the Year (Team Sport) and Sportsboy/Sportsgirl Team of the Year (Event).
The award categories for 2022 are:
1. Sportsman of the Year
2. Sportswoman of the Year
3. Sportsboy of the Year
4. Sportsgirl of the Year
5. Coach of the Year
6. Team of the Year (Event)

Meritorious awards will also be presented to individual and team performances in the senior and junior categories.
