Singapore Olympic Academy Successfully Concludes 29th Annual Academic Session
The Singapore Olympic Academy (“SOA”) is delighted to report that its 29th Annual Academic Session was successfully held from November 15 to 17 2024 at Dunman High School, Singapore.
The Session, which was launched by Mr Ng Ser Miang – IOC Member and SOA Chairman – attracted attendees from 11 countries: Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore. Overall, the session was blessed to have a diverse group of attendees which included Physical Education teachers, sports administrators, coaches and representatives from the various National Sports Associations in Singapore.
The theme of the 2024 Annual Session was “The Athlete in Society: Empowering Olympic Values through Sports & Physical Education” and over three days, attendees had the opportunity to be engaged in vibrant discussions on Olympism and the Olympic Values, take part in site visits to the Singapore Sports Museum & the Singapore Sports Institute, learn about each other’s culture during Cultural Night and even have a memorable Q&A with three Singapore Olympians.
One of the takeaways was from the Keynote Address by SOA Principal, Dr Koh Koon Teck who spoke on the topic of “Developing Values and Life Skills through Sports and PE” and the three interactive workshops by ITE College East, Juying Secondary School and Blangah Rise Primary School which touched on the best practices and the promotion of Olympic Values through sports in different settings.
Further to that, the SOA even had the pleasure of having Mr Senathiraj Thevaratnam of the Malaysian Olympic Academy to join the panel of facilitators for the duration of the Session. This was indeed the Olympic Value of Friendship in action.
The SOA’s Annual Academic Session has always been known to provide a platform for the sports-minded to exchange ideas, foster connections and explore the ever evolving role of athletes in the society. Judging from the enthusiastic feedback and smiles all around, the session was a resounding success. As such, the Organising Committee eagerly looks forward to welcoming everyone again in November 2025 for SOA’s 30th Annual Annual Session.
