Maximilian Maeder rewarded for his performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Singapore, 23 October 2024 – The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) recognised Maximilian Maeder, Singapore’s first Olympic sailing medallist, during the SNOC Major Games Programme (MAP) Awards Presentation and Appreciation Dinner for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the Swissotel the Stamford today.

A total of 23 athletes represented Singapore at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with 15 making their Olympic debut. Competing on the world stage, Team Singapore impressed with record-breaking performances and notable achievements. Among these was 18-year-old kite foiler Maximilian, who earned a bronze medal in the men’s kite event off the coast of Marseilles, marking a historic milestone as Singapore’s first Olympic sailing medallist.

In recognition of his achievement, Maximilian was awarded a cash prize of $250,000, presented by Ms Tan Su-Yin, Senior Director (Grants) from Tote Board. The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations and President of the SNOC, and Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law, who celebrated this momentous occasion alongside Team Singapore Paris 2024 Olympic Games contingent.

The SNOC’s MAP, launched in the 1990s, is a programme designed to reward Singaporean athletes who bring home medals from major events like the SEA Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and the Olympic Games. Athletes are required to contribute a minimum of 20% of their prize money to their respective National Sports Associations for the development of youth athletes. The MAP is generously sponsored by the Tote Board.
